How to work out your home insurance needs
Whether you rent or own your home you need to make sure your home and contents are adequately covered.
But how can you make sure you are not over-insured, or worse, under-insured?
We've put together some pointers on how to insure your home and contents properly.

Buildings
If you own your home, or rent out a property you need to make sure that the buildings are covered. Get professional advice on calculating what it would cost to rebuild your house. Remember to include all buildings, including garages or garden sheds, and to cost in special features such as fireplaces and custom built kitchens.
Your personal possessions
Available to home owners and those in rented accommodation, insurance for personal possessions is necessary in case of theft, fire or flood damage. Most policies will provide limited cover of your possessions. To check that this is enough, make an inventory of all your furniture, technical equipment, appliances and clothes at current replacement cost.
Go from room by room to make sure your list is complete, and don't forget the contents of your garage, including tools, bicycles and garden equipment like lawn mowers. You may need to arrange separate cover for jewellery and silverware.
Whatever cover you select, you should always read the policy documents carefully to make sure it meets all of your needs. Links to all the Tesco Home Insurance policy pages are listed below:
